Voices of Europe - concert
Reykjavik is the birthplace of the idea to create an international net, consisting of ten-strong groups of young choristers, selected and led by conductors from individual cities.
The first performance of this multinational choir took place during the New Year Concert in Reykjavik, yet the choir will not have set off on their concert tour of European Cities of Culture by late September. Their show will focus on the variety of musical traditions, styles, and cultures of the Old World.
Works characteristic for each of the cities combine into the programme of the tour concerts; they are sung in the nine languages of the cities. Krakow is represented by Stanisław Krawczyński, who selected three music pieces: Już się zmierzcha (It is Already Getting Dark) by Wacław of Szamotuły, Viderunt omnes fines terrae, by Mikołaj Zieleński, and Agnus Dei by Krzysztof Penderecki. Another attraction of the programme is a work composed especially for this occasion by one of the most eminent contemporary composers, Arvo Part from Estonia.
