Libraries 2000 - Cities of European Culture
The exhibition is a part of the programme of cultural exchange and promotion, initiated by Bergen librarians. The Municipal Public Libraries of the cities - participants of the project, that is of Krakow, Bergen, Prague, Helsinki, Reykjavik, Brussels, and Bologna, are to prepare promotional actions for ten writers from each of the cities. Among the authors selected for presentation of Krakow, there are: Stanisław Lem, Wisława Szymborska, Czesław Miłosz, Ewa Lipska, Sławomir Mrożek, Jan Józef Szczepański, Julian Korhauser, Józef Baran, Adam Ziemianin, and Krzysztof Lisowski. Their bibliographies together with brief English biographies can be found in the Internet, at: www.wbp.krakow.pl website
Collaboration between the libraries - participants of the project involves also an exchange of promotional materials between the individual cities, transfer of books (for example in Brussels and Bergen there is need for literature in Polish), conferences and meetings of librarians aimed at sharing experience, and establishment of links with publishing houses operating in the individual cities.
The exhibition in the Voivodship Public Library (Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna): European Cities of Culture (similar exhibition will simultaneously be open in all the other cities) is a presentation of books, photographs, and other materials introducing cooperating cities and regions.
